Hip-Hop Icon Celebrates 30th Anniversary of Legendary Album with Philharmonic Collaboration

Nas is set to bring a unique musical experience to Las Vegas this summer in celebration of the 30th anniversary of his groundbreaking album, Illmatic. The hip-hop legend will perform at the Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas, accompanied by the Las Vegas Philharmonic orchestra, Billboard reports.

The special concert series, titled “Nas With the Las Vegas Philharmonic,” will feature performances on August 29, August 31, and September 1. Fans can expect to hear classic tracks from Illmatic as well as selections from Nas’s extensive discography, all reimagined with orchestral arrangements.

In a statement, Nas expressed his enthusiasm for this innovative performance. “Las Vegas has always served as a creative outlet for my music, and these performances will take that to the next level,” he said. “I am excited to partner with the Las Vegas Philharmonic to bring this first-of-its-kind performance to Encore Theater and to showcase my music to my fans in Las Vegas in a whole new way.”

Bobby Reynolds, SVP of AEG Presents Las Vegas, also shared his excitement for the collaboration. “We could not be more thrilled to welcome Nas to Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas for this historic collaboration with the Las Vegas Philharmonic to celebrate one of the greatest hip-hop albums ever made,” Reynolds said. “Marrying Nas’ legendary catalog with the unparalleled sound of the Las Vegas Philharmonic is guaranteed to be an unforgettable and must-see experience for all Nas fans, and there is no venue more perfect in Las Vegas for this collaboration or a better place to be this Labor Day Weekend for entertainment than Encore Theater.”

Released in 1994, Illmatic is widely regarded as one of the greatest albums of all time. Featuring production from hip-hop luminaries like Large Professor, Q-Tip, DJ Premier, and Pete Rock, the album received a rare 5-mic rating from The Source magazine. In 2020, Illmatic was selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress, recognizing its cultural, historical, and aesthetic significance.
